Simple Monthly Budget
Google Sheets · 2 tabs · one month
It opens with example figures already in place so you can see how it behaves — type straight over them with your own. One month, one tab, on purpose: it is the whole budget for plenty of people.
- Money in
- Five income lines — pay, a second income, side money, anything else — with planned and actual side by side.
- Money out
- Fifteen everyday categories already filled in, from rent and council tax to food, transport and subscriptions. Rename any of them.
- Difference column
- Fills itself in for every line. Green where you came in under, red where you went over.
- Left over
- One clear figure at the bottom: what is actually left once everything is paid.
- Start Here tab
- A short page explaining how to use it, so you are not guessing at the layout.
Opens Google Sheets and asks if you want to copy it to your own Drive.
Before you ask
- Do I need a Google account?
- Yes — a free one. The link opens a copy dialog, and your copy saves to your own Google Drive. Nothing is installed.
- Can I use it in Excel?
- Yes. In your copy choose File → Download → Microsoft Excel (.xlsx). The formulas carry over.
- Can you see my budget?
- No. The moment you make a copy it belongs to your Drive and is private to you. The original is view-only, so nothing you type ever touches it.
- Is it really free?
- Yes, and there is nothing to unsubscribe from. There are paid templates elsewhere on the site if you outgrow this one — but this is a complete month on its own.
